I got this to replace another I have that used 4 AAA batteries which were a pain I love the fact that this has built-in batteries and I can unclip from the magnetic strip and plug it into recharge which saves me money so I love that about this one.
This has 4 different light options marked on the side b numbers 1 2 3 4 you will have to check the manual for which setting you like in the position 1 this is off, 2 is steady on 3 is motion activated bright and 4 is dim motion activated. 
I have mine in motion activated so as soon as I walk into my laundry room this turns on and provides me enough light to see what I'm doing for when I take the dog out.
This disconnects from the magnetic strip really easy but the sticky tape is not all that sticky it has some issues sticking to some surfaces especially the glossy surfaces but on wood and metal it didn't have a problem
