I was quite blown away with these magnets I didn't expect them to be as strong as they are for the size of them I got these to hang my stocking on around my fireplace as we have a metal surround around ours.

I installed the metal hook to the magnet base which screws in and as soon as I got close to the metal surround on my fireplace these automatically pulled in and stuck quite well. 
I had quite the fight to  pull they off and of course I had to add a bag to the hook and fill it with a bunch of stuff to see how much it would hold.
Well, I had a bag filled with heavy items gallon of milk gallon of juice and the hook stayed in place. My daughter loved playing with these on my kitchen floor pushing them around even the dog got in on the act trying to push them. I will say be careful when holding two in one hand if the magnets snap together it has a chance of pinching your skin and let me tell you that hurts. If these snap together you will have a little fight to separate them
